Blogging is Hard

Ok. I've been in this blogging world for a while now. Like since Husband's first deployment five years ago. So I know what I need to really keep the blog going. It's just a little hard right now. See, I have a secret. I'm not ready to spill the beans about this secret to the world just yet, so I'm still keeping it mostly to myself.

I think what's worse is that Redhead keeps bringing home cold germs, so I've been in a state of perpetual coughing and phlegm life for the last two months. It's so not fun. But as a result, this little blog of my has been forced into hiatus. Which is hilarious since it's only had one post so far.

Redhead turned five last month. She loves telling people that she's five now, and it's super adorable. Her speech is getting crazy good, which I'm glad about. I'm hopeful that by the time she goes into kindergarten, she'll be caught up to where she should be with regards to language skills. She has extra class during the week and she meets with the specialists at school to work on her speech, and it is showing in how she's communicating at home.

Mama's Girl is becoming a bit less of a mama's girl lately. It's weird. But I think she spends so much time with me during the week that she wants to snuggle and play with her daddy when he gets home from school. Husband isn't minding it too much. In fact he's loving it. Although, Husband does wish that Redhead would want to play with him less. Redhead is a total daddy's girl and she clings to him like crazy.

Dog and Cat 2 are their animal annoying selves. Cat 2 is a total lap cat. I'm pretty sure that she would not survive without human companionship. Her history is too people-centric. Her litter was abandoned by their mom, they were bottlefed by a foster family, we adopted her at 12 weeks. She's always been a chest/lap cat. She needs that love. Dog is still a puppy, so she still tends to mess up on some things. We're getting there though. She's not having "accidents" in the house as frequently as when we got her a few months ago.

I'm hoping to keep blogging now. Even if I have this big secret that I'm not ready to share with the world yet. If I can keep my blog from veering into that territory, I think I'll be good and won't share it until I'm ready to. Fingers crossed.

Crayons + Walls + IEP = Stressed Mommy

What a morning. Redhead (the older daughter) and Mama's Girl (the younger daughter) spent the weekend coloring on the front door and the walls leading up to it. Thought they could have crayons again (this is not the first instance of wall art), but they proved Husband and I wrong.

So, I have green, pink, brown, and just a touch of blue crayon on my walls that I now have to clean up. Luckily, I have those wonderful Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. So I managed to spend half the morning cleaning the lovely art my two girls decorated my house with. And I'm only half done. But all that scrubbing really hurts my wrist.

Plus, I used up two of the erasers in pursuit of clean walls.

I have heard that baking soda gets crayon off walls too, so I might work on that later today (or maybe tomorrow). In theory, I could easily get all this crayon art removed from my walls by tomorrow.

I don't think it will be done today simply because we have an IEP meeting at Redhead's school this afternoon. She has a speech delay that we're hoping to get help for during the second half of the school year. She's in 4K, so we really want to get at least some progress before she hits kindergarten next year. Plus, Mama's Girl (who's two) is starting to surpass her sister in the language department and I think that bothers Husband and me more than it bothers Redhead.

I sometimes hate that this speech delay is happening with my kid. I have my suspicions as to why it happened, but they're just that. Suspicions.

See, what happened is this. Husband was Army. He deployed twice during Redhead's early years (which, technically she's still going through). Because I was a first time mom with Redhead, living far away from my family, and a serious introvert, Redhead didn't get the opportunity to listen to people talking. It was relatively quiet in our house while Husband was deployed.

Now, she's nearly five, and we have to get her help so that she doesn't remain behind in her development. Redhead is a crazy smart kid. She's super logical and can problem solve like crazy. She just can't communicate with us.

I am glad that we won't have to go through this with Mama's Girl. Her development seems relatively on track for her age.

Now, if only Mama's Girl and Redhead would be quiet every so often. They can drive me a little crazy with all the talking.

What's the craziest thing your kids have made you clean up?

If your kid has an IEP for a speech delay, how much did it help in the pursuit of language skills for your child?
